Watch Board Brief from school board meeting on Aug. 21, 2025
Posted in on August 25, 2025

The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees held its second meeting of the new school year on Aug. 21, 2025, and here are a few of the highlights.

Sherrod Elementary sixth grader Justin Jackson started the meeting by leading everyone in the pledges of allegiance. Justin did a great job.

Then the board honored the first-ever Dallas Cowboys Girls Flag Football League Champions, our very own Martin High School Warriors! Coach Patrick Dunn and his team defeated DeSoto for the championship back in May at The Star in Frisco. Rowdy, the Cowboys mascot, made a surprise visit at the meeting and joined the board as they congratulated these amazing student athletes.

After the Board Honors, the trustees received a number of reports from Arlington ISD administrators, including highlights from the first day of school from Chief of Schools Officer Bret Champion, the 2024-2025 internal audit report, and an update on academic accountability.

According to TEA’s latest accountability ratings, the district doubled the number of A-rated campuses, decreased the number of F-rated campuses from 14 to 9, and improved districtwide performance. While these official results mark a clear upward trend, they don’t reflect the full story.

The district requested rescoring for over 4,000 written response portions of the STAAR exam. These portions were graded by computers, so Arlington ISD requested that they be rescored by humans. Arlington ISD submitted everything according to the guidelines and on time, but due to a technical glitch, TEA was not able to process the request in time.

Once the rescores are processed, Arlington ISD projects that many schools will see their overall scores go up. Arlington ISD now has to submit an appeal to TEA, so they will recalculate the accountability ratings.

Later in the meeting, the board approved an agreement to ensure the Police Academy course will continue to thrive in partnership with the Arlington Police Department.

Finally, the board approved a facility-use agreement with UT Arlington to use Maverick Stadium for 11 district football games this season. The first game is Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. Arlington ISD’s three home stadiums this year will be Maverick Stadium, Choctaw Stadium, and the soon-to-open Glaspie Field.

Those are just a few of the highlights from a very full agenda. If you would like more details on any of these, or any of the items not covered in this Board Brief, please click here to watch the entire meeting.
