The Arlington ISD’s Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 5, 2026, is in the books, and here are a few of the highlights.

Beckham Elementary sixth grader Jaxon McCully started the meeting by leading everyone in the pledges of allegiance. Jaxon did a great job.

After Jaxon, the board got to watch a really unique performance, led by Dr. Brianna Miller,
Arlington ISD’s director of modern and contemporary dance.  Student dancers from the Center for Visual and Performing Arts contemporary dance company gave a demonstration of developing choreography. The dancers interpreted random words as dance movements and put them all together into a newly created dance on the spot.

Then the board honored the student of the month, Martin High School senior Xavier Nolasco. Xavier is an incredible student, outgoing, analytical, and driven. He’s a member of Martin’s STEM Academy, Martin’s choir program and show choir.  Plus, he is the cross-country team captain. Xavier is planning to go to UT Arlington next year on a full scholarship to study civil engineering. Congrats, Xavier!

Arlington ISD has incredible students, and that means we have amazing teachers, too. Trustees honored two of them for a major accomplishment. Rachel Higbee, from South Davis Elementary, and Lindsey Paine, from Miller Elementary, recently earned the National Board Certification, the most respected professional certification in education. These teachers are truly dedicated to their students and worthy of the recognition. Congrats and thank you, Rachel and Lindsey.

Exceptional education takes a village, and Arlington ISD has many great community partners who help create exceptional experiences for students. The board honored one of them Last night – Texas Health Community Hope – with the Community Partner Award. The partnership between Texas Health and Arlington ISD has deep roots, but over the past three years, Texas Health’s support of Arlington ISD has expanded, totaling more than $100,000 in grants via Texas Health Community Hope, as well as project support and volunteer hours. There’s not time to go into all of the ways they have helped promote student and staff health and wellness, but here’s one big highlight. They have funded and helped install learning gardens at four schools, including Wimbish, Crow, South Davis and Martin. Thank you, Texas Health.

The entire meeting wasn’t just devoted to giving out honors – there was business to discuss, too, including the biggest item on the agenda – a new bond. At the last board meeting, the Capital Needs Steering Committee presented its final report after completing its charge to assess the district’s facilities and capital needs. The committee recommended that the board call for a bond election to meet some of those needs. The board responded to that recommendation at the meeting last night and called for a bond election on May 2 of this year.

This new bond proposal would include projects in facilities, fine arts, transportation, and safety, security and technology. The district has posted a Bond 2026 webpage: www.aisd.net/bond-2026. Please visit that page to see the propositions called for and the projects that each include.

Those are just a few of the highlights from the Feb. 5 meeting. If you would like more details on any of these, or any of the items not covered in this Board Brief, please click here to watch the entire meeting.
