Watch Board Brief from school board meeting on March 12, 2026
Posted in on March 13, 2026

Every spring is busy, but this one seems even more so with the bond proposal, elections, and just a lot going on. It’s finally time for spring break, but first, the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees met last night, March 12, 2026, to discuss and decide on a number of important items. Here are a few of the highlights.

A sixth grader from Speer Elementary, Ethan Banks, started the meeting by leading everyone in the pledges of allegiance. Thank you, Ethan.

Then several thespians from Bowie High School performed a short excerpt from their one act play, Marisol, by Jose Rivera. The student actors were directed by Joy Trimble and Lindsey Hertel and were phenomenal.

Then the board gave out a bunch of honors. First, they celebrated the student of the month, Sam Houston High School senior Angeli Gonzalez. Angelie is involved in so many things. She has served on student council for four years and was a SLAB representative last year. She’s a Dream Big Scholar and a three-time district runner-up wrestler. Angelie is planning to go to law school and has a great future ahead of her. Congrats, Angelie!

Then the board honored six high school students who were named 2026 All-State Musicians by the Texas Music Educators Association. That means they are among the top 3% of high school musicians in the entire state!

A couple of months ago, the board celebrated the district high schools that were named to the U.S. News & World Report Best Schools list. This week, trustees highlighted the 15 elementary and junior high schools that made the list, too!

Finally, we honored Camila Lopez, a student at Burgin Elementary, whose artwork, The Elements of a Colorful Palette, was selected for the Youth Art Month Spring Exhibition and is currently being showcased at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. Congrats, Camila!

Later, the board approved new names for the Arlington High School softball field and the Martin High School baseball field. Arlington High’s field will be named in honor of former coach Tommy Edmondson, and Martin’s Warrior Baseball field will be named in honor of former Martin baseball coach Curt Culbertson. Both were incredible coaches who had a huge impact on their students and players.

The board also continued its discussion of the Texas Incentive Allotment, a pathway for teachers to earn additional income. The trustees voted for the district to begin the application to become a district that offers TIA.

Finally, the board approved the adoption of the Bluebonnet Learning Mathematics curriculum for kindergarten through Algebra II. The transition to this new curriculum aims to ensure equitable, rigorous instruction for all students and foster a culture of academic excellence across the district.

Those are just a few of the highlights from the meeting. If you would like more details on any of these items, or any of the items not covered in this Board Brief, please click here to watch the entire meeting.

Have a great spring break!
