Arlington’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. “Advancing the Dream” Celebration was filled with Arlington ISD students celebrating King’s legacy of unity. If you missed it, it’s not too late. you can still watch the Step Showcase and the Youth Extravaganza below.
Step Showcase
The Step Showcase on Saturday included step teams from 19 Arlington ISD schools, and three of them walked away with first place trophies:
- First place high school: Seguin High School
- First place junior high: Nichols Junior High
- First place elementary: Atherton Elementary
Youth Extravaganza
The Youth Extravaganza featured Arlington ISD talent throughout, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary Choir with students from 15 Arlington ISD elementary schools.
Contest Winners
If you went to any of the celebration festivities or watched the Youth Extravaganza above, you saw the official event t-shirts that featured artwork of Martin Luther King. That art was created by Lamar High School ninth grader Ramiro Ramirez, the winner of the MLK art contest.
This year, all the winners in both the art and essay contests are from Arlington ISD, and all received scholarships. The winners included:
