Welcome Back to the 2025–2026 School Year
As we embark on another exciting academic year, we extend a warm welcome to all Arlington ISD staff members. Thank you for the dedication you bring to our students and campuses. Let’s make this year one of growth, collaboration, and most importantly safety.
Reducing Injuries Is Priority #1: Campus Liaison
Each campus must select a campus liaison to serve as the main point of contact for safety matters. Use the link to submit your campus’ liaison’s name: Arlington ISD CAMPUS SAFETY LIAISON
Safety walks will be scheduled for each campus. Please look for an upcoming email with your date and time.
Slips, trips, and falls remain one of the most common causes of school injuries in Arlington ISD. Taking proactive measures can significantly reduce these incidents and create a safer environment for everyone.
Daily Safety Practices to Minimize Risks
- Pay attention: Focus on walking safely and be aware of your surroundings. Look out for stairways, curbs, speed bumps, and changes in surfaces or elevations.
- Ladders: Use ladders or step ladders properly and ensure they are set up correctly before use. Always follow the directions on the labeling.
- Parking lots: Be alert to hazards like curbs, gravel, oil patches, or weather-related dangers.
- Stairs: Use handrails when going up or down, especially during wet or icy conditions. Keep one hand free for the handrail whenever possible.
- Warning signs: Post clear, visible signs for hazards like wet floors or uneven surfaces.
- Take your time: Avoid rushing and prioritize safety.
- Awareness: Educate students and staff on safety and encourage them to report hazards promptly to their supervisor.
- Behavioral measures: Wear footwear appropriate for your work environment. In winter months or during inclement weather, consider alternate footwear to and from your vehicle.
Additional Safety Tips for Staff Returning to Campus
- Re-acclimate to your workspace: After the summer, check your classroom or office for potential hazards such as loose cords, stacked boxes, or blocked pathways.
- Lifting and carrying: Use safe lifting techniques when unpacking supplies. Bend at the knees, not the waist, and ask for assistance with heavy or bulky items.
- Technology safety: Ensure cords and equipment are arranged to prevent tripping hazards. Use surge protectors and avoid overloading outlets.
- Health and wellness: Remember that fatigue increases the risk of injury. Stay hydrated, take short breaks, and stretch throughout the day.
- Emergency preparedness: Review evacuation routes, shelter-in-place procedures, and ensure your students know what to do during drills.
By adopting these practices, we can set the tone for a safe, injury-free school year.
