“I’m so excited for all the opportunities our kids will receive thanks to this grant,” said Ashworth Elementary P.E. teacher Kim Adams.

Students clapped and cheered as Adams accepted a large $5,000 check after the school was named a Texas Rangers Medical City Healthcare Fitness All-Stars grant recipient.

Arlington ISD, the Texas Rangers, and Medical City Healthcare maintain a strong partnership aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles through physical education programs across the district.

Earlier this year, a group of Adams’ fifth-grade students participated in the Fitness All-Stars program, where they tried a variety of sports, played games and won prizes while learning how to maintain an active lifestyle.

“I am excited to play new games,” said Maricella Vargas, a student at Ashworth Elementary. “We’ll have better equipment to use, and that’s exciting too.”

Adams said the new funding will allow the program to grow and improve.

“There’s a lot of equipment that I’m excited to replace, and having updated equipment means we can play more games and have better overall fitness,” she said.

After presenting the check, Texas Rangers Senior Director of Community Impact Ray Casas shared why Ashworth was selected.

“Ashworth really represented the school district well and shows the importance of fitness mentally and physically for kids,” Casas said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what Coach Adams does with brand-new equipment!”
