Abigail Moore is interning with Caterpillar
Abigail Moore, second in her senior class at Arlington High School, isn’t just an aspiring engineer and soon-to-be professional women’s baseball player. She’s also an intern with the world’s leading manufacturer of construction equipment, Caterpillar Inc.
Moore’s path to a professional internship began with specialized coursework at Arlington ISD’s Dan Dipert Career + Technical Center (CTC). Reflecting on the impact of the program, Moore noted that the CTC provided her with a tailored skillset that helped her transition to the professional world.
“Stepping into the corporate world as a student, you don’t really know what to expect,” Moore said. “You don’t know the proper terms to use, you don’t know how to carry yourself, and so I think that they guided us in the right direction. They taught us how to speak, how to answer interview questions, and how to fit into a professional setting.”
The CTC has been an integral part of Moore’s budding career path since her freshman year when she participated in a class that gave her hands-on engineering experience and knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems. From there, Moore participated in a CTC program that pairs students with internships, and Caterpillar selected her to join their Risk and Compliance team.
“I’ve been having fun learning about Caterpillar as a whole because risk and compliance is needed in every division and sector of the company,” Moore said. “But on the side, I’ve been able to collaborate with some of the engineers that work alongside me and get an inside scoop of what that looks like.”
Beyond the classroom, Moore is a standout athlete on both the varsity girls’ basketball and softball teams for Arlington High and recently signed with the New York Women’s Professional Baseball League team. Despite having a very busy schedule, Moore believes you can work hard in the classroom and be very successful in extracurricular activities.
“I just remember that school always comes first,” Moore said. “Athletics are my passion and where my heart is, but they’re not possible without good grades. It’s hard balancing those two, but it’s necessary to uphold everything.”
Moore’s success is impressive, but she is one of many successful students in Arlington ISD who are leveraging the opportunities offered by the district’s CTE program. Whether it’s professional internships, professional certifications, or real-world, hands-on classes, there is something for every student. Learn more about the Arlington ISD CTE experience.
