Arlington Independent School District is proud to announce the appointment of Taina Northington as its new Chief Communications Officer. Northington, a Lone Star Emmy award-winning journalist and recognized leader in school communications and strategic marketing, brings a wealth of experience in public relations, crisis communication, and brand strategy to the district.
Northington joins Arlington ISD after serving as Chief Communications & Marketing Officer for Killeen ISD, where she oversaw communications across 52 campuses. Under her leadership, the district earned more than 75 Gold Awards from the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA), including top honors for the state’s leading employee recognition campaign in 2022. Her efforts helped elevate Killeen ISD’s public image, strengthen school-to-community partnerships, and support initiatives that directly contributed to student and staff engagement.
“I’m honored to join Arlington ISD and lead the charge in telling the powerful stories unfolding in our schools every day,” said Northington. “Clear, consistent communication and strong marketing strategies will be key in building trust and amplifying the work of our educators and students. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and help make Arlington ISD a destination district that prioritizes excellence, connection, and student success.”
With a distinguished background in television broadcasting, Northington earned statewide recognition for her reporting on major events such as the West Explosion, Fort Hood shooting, Twin Peaks shooting, and Hurricane Harvey. She was named a Texas Woman of Distinction by the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC).
Northington holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. A dedicated wife, mother, and lifelong learner, she actively contributes to numerous local, state, and national committees focused on advancing public education, equity, and meaningful engagement.
“Taina’s passion for storytelling and her commitment to transparent, effective communication make her an exceptional addition to our leadership team,” said Dr. Matt Smith, Superintendent of Arlington ISD. “Her ability to lead with strategy and heart will be instrumental in helping us build deeper connections and support the long-term success of every student.”
