This year’s event recognized 82 nominees from campuses across Arlington ISD, including a record 20 high school nominees. Teachers were honored in five grade-level categories, with finalists, runners-up, and winners recognized for their dedication, leadership and commitment to student success.
The 2026 AWARE Award winners are:
- Early Childhood-First Grade: Anzie Beckers, Burgin Elementary
- Second-Fourth Grade: Sarah MacQuarrie, Ditto Elementary
- Fifth-Sixth Grade: Samantha McCoy, Ditto Elementary
- Junior High: Hunter Hendrickson, Gunn Junior High
- High School: Carolyn Peterson, Project SEARCH
During the ceremony, presenters highlighted the educators’ creativity, passion, and ability to build meaningful relationships with students. Many nominees were recognized not only for academic achievement in their classrooms, but also for creating supportive learning environments where students feel valued and inspired.
Arlington ISD superintendent Dr. Matt Smith joined district leaders, trustees, and community supporters in celebrating the educators and thanking the AWARE Foundation for its continued commitment to recognizing excellence in education.
Since 1989, the AWARE Foundation – Arlington Will Award and Recognize Excellence – has honored outstanding Arlington ISD teachers and their lasting impact on students and the community.
