Texas Rangers mascot surprises Beckham students

It’s always exciting when Captain, the Texas Rangers mascot, shows up at an elementary school. It’s even more exciting when he shows up with a big $5,000 check!

That’s what happened at Beckham Elementary School earlier this month. The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Medical City Healthcare named Beckham their Fitness All-Star School of the Year and awarded the school a $5,000 grant to go toward new P.E. equipment. Beckham plans to use much of the money for its ISPD special education students.

“We want to purchase adaptive P.E. equipment for them to use during our P.E. time together,” said Beckham’s P.E. teacher Christy Small. “We’re very excited!”

The Texas Rangers Medical City Healthcare Fitness All-Stars project is a joint outreach program of Medical City Healthcare, the Arlington Independent School District and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. It aims to help students make healthy decisions and understand the importance of exercise and nutrition.
