A new chapter is beginning for Crow Leadership Academy students!
Students had the opportunity to expand their personal libraries thanks to a partnership with Texas Health and Scholastic. Every student took home two free Scholastic books of their choice, promoting reading both inside and outside of the classroom.
“When students have access to a variety of books and the freedom to choose what interests them, they are more likely to read, build reading stamina, expand vocabulary, and develop greater confidence as readers,” said Lesley Cano, Arlington ISD Library Services coordinator. “By removing barriers to book access and making reading something students can continue at home, book giveaways help strengthen reading habits and reinforce the message that reading is both valuable and enjoyable.”
Allowing students to select books that interest them helps create meaningful connections to independent reading and the development of lifelong readers. By expanding student access to books beyond the school day, students become stronger readers by reading frequently and widely.
“There’s something special about watching a student light up when they find a book they’re excited to take home,” said Crow librarian Lisa Bell. “When students see reading celebrated as something fun and valuable, it helps create a positive reading culture throughout our school.”
Crow principal Liznel Gonzalez said this is the fourth campus project that Texas Health has granted their school community.
“We are incredibly grateful for their partnership, sponsorship, and support,” Gonzalez said. “Every story helps our students grow as IB learners and develop the curiosity, courage, and confidence to lead.”
This giveaway is a part of Arlington ISD’s broader commitment to literacy and student success. The district’s librarians play a vital role in bringing literacy to life through curated collections, personalized book recommendations, author visits, events, and reading challenges.
One reading challenge that launches Sept. 14 is the Bond & Beyond: A Reading Space Race, a fun way to get kids reading with their dads and male mentors.
