〉What is one piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman?
You don’t have to be everything everywhere all at once. High school offers an overwhelming selection of options compared to middle school, both socially and academically. Find one good thing in your life and stick with it. One close friend is all you need. One speciality is all you have time for. Of course, I only learned this by exploring my options. Once you find something or someone that you feel sustainable — in the sense that you can support it for an indefinite period of time — then focus on it!
〉What will you miss most about high school
Having my entire network of friends close by. Our days of spontaneous meet-ups during lunch will be over soon. What do you mean we’re all dispersing to different locations across the country?
〉What are you most excited about after graduation?
Having time to myself. I’ve basically played Tetris with my schedule these last four years. I can’t wait to have the freedom to be bored again.
〉Who inspires you the most and why?
My dear friend, Christina Tran. We met as confused middle schoolers and have grown into (mostly!) capable individuals. We started off braiding each other’s hair under our desks in Algebra 1. Now, I stand by her side at Lockheed Martin for our internships. We’ve both come so far. It’s Christina’s natural tendency to uplift others and unashamedly express herself that makes her such a positive influence to me. Her constant progression — academically and especially personally — often inspired me to continue pushing forward. I want to live and laugh as freely as she does. Christina is one of the main reasons why I’ll keep fighting to become the best version of myself.
〉What’s your favorite high school memory?
I’ll cherish those moments in orchestra when we truly synchronized as a group. Being a part of something bigger than myself is an exhilarating feeling. Although I can google the music we played, I’ll never experience playing with my viola section again.
