Sandra Njoroge honored as student of the month
October is here, and Arlington ISD’s Board of Trustees held its first meeting of the month last night. Here are a few of the highlights.
The board first recognized the district’s October Student of the Month, Sandra Njoroge, a senior at Arlington College and Career High School. Congratulations, Sandra!
Then the board heard an update from Dr. Priscila Dilley, Arlington ISD chief academics officer, on how Arlington ISD is responding to its curriculum management audit. The independent audit identified several areas with opportunities to improve. Dr. Dilley talked about those areas and how the district is putting strong systems in place to improve and sustain its work.
Trustees also received an update on the Teacher Incentive Allotment, or TIA. This is Arlington ISD’s first year implementing TIA, and the program has been introduced at 23 pilot schools. The goal is to support effective teaching while accurately measuring student growth. TIA will give outstanding teachers an opportunity to earn additional income.
Later in the meeting, the board approved this year’s College, Career, and Military Readiness plan. The CCMR plan takes a holistic approach to preparing students for life after graduation by aligning district resources, academics, and student supports to help our students find long-term success.
And finally, have you driven by Cravens or Wilemon Field lately?
They’re not there anymore!
Both stadiums have been demolished, and new stadiums are now under construction thanks to the 2019 Bond. Last night, trustees approved easements at both locations so Oncor can access the sites and complete any necessary work to support the electrical needs of the new stadiums.
Those are just a few of the highlights from the meeting. If you’d like to see everything that happened, please watch the full board meeting on YouTube.
And remember, you’re always welcome at board meetings. The next school board meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Arlington ISD Administration Building.
