Board honors first student of the month for 2026-2027
Arlington ISD’s Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 10, 2026, is in the books, and here are a few of the highlights.
One of the first things the board did was congratulate Arlington ISD’s first student of the month for this year, Arlington High School senior Libby Deakyne. Congrats, Libby!

At the last board meeting, trustees spent a lot of time discussing accountability ratings. That discussion continued at this meeting as Chief Schools Officer Bret Champion presented about the highest priority campuses this year and the systems of support that are being implemented to ensure their growth.
Then Taina Northington, the district’s Chief Communications Officer, presented a new comprehensive marketing plan focused on increasing enrollment, strengthening the district’s reputation, and building stronger connections and engagement among families, employees, and the broader community.
The meeting also included a public hearing for the 2026 tax rate. Following the hearing, the board approved the new rate at $1.0961. That rate includes both the Maintenance and Operations rate – for the general fund – and the Interest and Sinking rate – which pays off bonds.
Later, the board approved Key Progress Measures (or KPMs) for the new school year. These are SMART goals carefully developed to help us strive toward each of our seven priorities.
And then the board approved KPIs – Key Progress Indicators – to track organizational health and the progress of the district’s new strategic plan.
The board also approved the annual Campus Improvement Plan Performance Objectives. Each school has goals for increasing success in reading and math, among others.
Finally, the board approved the appointees for the district’s community stakeholder committees, including the Community Ambassadors Committee, Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, Citizens Bond Oversight Committee, School Health Advisory Council, and the School Library Advisory Council.
