Qualifications for free pre-K in Arlington ISD
To be eligible for enrollment in free pre-K, children must be:
At least 3 years of age on or before September 1, 2024
and
meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements:
* For children who meet the age requirement but not the other eligibility requirements, Arlington ISD offers tuition-based pre-K 3 at some locations.

Arlington ISD follows the State of Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines and a strong Arlington ISD scope and sequence model designed with kindergarten readiness and a research-based early learning program. |

Attendance |
To take advantage of our high-quality pre-K program, students must come to school every day. Pre-K students fall under the Compulsory Attendance Law. Therefore, they are expected to attend school and follow the Arlington ISD school district calendar. |

Tuition and Payments |
Tuition is $2,295 for the 2023-2024 school year, which will be divided into nine equal payments of $255 beginning Sept. 1, 2023, and ending May 1, 2024. Full monthly payments are due and payable on the first of each month starting Sept. 1. Payment must be made in order to maintain the child’s spot in the program. Parents employed by Arlington ISD will pay a yearly tuition of $2,070 or nine monthly payments of $230. |

Why is Pre-k Important?
- 90% of a child’s brain is already developed by age six (Buffet Early Childhood Institute)
- Children who wait until kindergarten to start school are twice as likely to be behind and three times less likely to be able to read by third grade.
- The cornerstone of the pre-K curriculum is learning through play. Children will learn early reading, math and science skills through hands-on activities and play.

What Are the Federal Guidelines to Be Eligible for Free Pre-k 3?
- unable to speak and comprehend the English language,
- is educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the national school lunch program – guidelines about NSLP eligibility can be found in sections 4 and 6 of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Administrators Reference Manual),
- is homeless, as defined by 42 USC, §11434a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child,
- is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority,
- is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty,
- is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Family Code §262.201or has been in foster care in another state or territory, but currently lives in Texas,
