WHY IS PRE-K IMPORTANT?


  • 90% of a child’s brain is already developed by age six (Buffet Early Childhood Institute).
  • Children who wait until kindergarten to start school are twice as likely to be behind and three times less likely to be able to read by third grade.
  • The cornerstone of the pre-K curriculum is learning through play. Children will learn early reading, math and science skills through hands-on activities and play.
  • Pre-K does more than build children academically. Children develop social and emotional skills to help them thrive as a whole person. Children who attend pre-K have more verbal skills and self-control and can build relationships with other children better than those who do not attend.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE IN AN ARLINGTON ISD PRE-K CLASSROOM?

When you walk into a pre-K classroom at any Arlington ISD school, you are going to find busy little people …

WHAT CURRICULUM DOES ARLINGTON ISD PRE-K FOLLOW?

Arlington ISD follows the Texas Education Agency's pre-K Guidelines. Our comprehensive early childhood instructional model is enriched by using a research-based program that integrates instruction across developmental domains and early learning disciplines. Arlington ISD’s pre-K 4 also incorporates an age-appropriate STEM curriculum into each student’s learning.


Arlington ISD's high-quality pre-K instructional framework inspires curiosity and builds confidence and kindergarten readiness. Our early-childhood-certified teachers are committed to providing daily meaningful learning experiences for all students.


Our curriculum meets the needs of all learners, including English language learners and children with special needs, through thoughtfully planned activities for active exploration and differentiated instruction. Students will have fun while developing the following domains:

HOW IS STEM INCORPORATED INTO PRE-K?

Pre-K teachers purposefully teach and use intentionally designed lessons in the STEM lab to inspire learning, promote exploration, encourage enjoyment of science and technology, and foster mathematics and engineering concepts development.

Every pre-K classroom and STEM lab across Arlington ISD is equipped to foster our pre-K students' creativity, spark students’ imagination and develop their real-world skills.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE TO ENROLL IN PRE-K 4?

To be eligible for enrollment in a free Pre-K 4 program, a child must be at least 4-years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year. A child who is 5-years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year is not eligible for enrollment in a pre-K class but can enroll in kindergarten.

Does Arlington ISD offer bilingual pre-K?

Some schools offer bilingual classes. When the home school does not have a bilingual program, a qualifying student may attend a Bilingual Center. Click here for more information on bilingual pre-K.

HOW DO I PROVE MY CHILD'S AGE AND IDENTIFICATION?

The documents considered acceptable for proof of identification and age are:



  • Birth certificate;

  • Statement of the child's date of birth issued by the division of the Texas Department of State Health Services responsible for vital statistics for school admission purposes;

  • Passport;

  • School ID card, records or report card;

  • Military ID;

  • Hospital birth record;

  • Adoption records;

  • Church baptismal record; or

  • Any other legal document that establishes identity and age.

IS THERE A FEE FOR MY FOUR-YEAR-OLD TO ATTEND FULL-DAY PRE-K?

There is no charge for 4-year-old students to attend pre-K. The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees approved an initiative called Universal Pre-K, which means pre-K 4 is free for all 4-year-old students even if your child does not meet federal qualifying guidelines.  

IF PRE-K IS FREE FOR ALL 4-YEAR-OLDS, WHY DO I STILL NEED TO PROVIDE FEDERAL GUIDELINE ELIGIBILITY DOCUMENTATION?

Universal pre-K is approved locally by Arlington ISD. However, state and federal guidelines still require all students to be screened for federal eligibility. A district must verify a student's pre-K eligibility to receive funding for the pre-K program and have any required documentation on file for their records. In order to determine income eligibility, guardians must provide income documentation if the student does not receive SNAP or TANF benefits.


Federal eligibility requires at least one of the following:



  • unable to speak and comprehend the English language

  • is educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the national school lunch program - guidelines about NSLP eligibility can be found in sections 4 and 6 of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Administrators Reference Manual)

  • is homeless, as defined by 42 USC, §11434a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child

  • is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority

  • is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty

  • is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Family Code §262.201 or has been in foster care in another state or territory, but currently lives in Texas

  • is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Texas Government Code §3106.002, a firefighter under Texas Government Code §3106.003, an emergency medical first responder under Texas Government Code §3106.004

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN'T MEET THE FEDERAL GUIDELINES FOR FREE PRE-K? 

Four-year-olds who do not meet the federal guidelines can still attend Arlington ISD pre-K for free after completing the eligibility screening process. In order to determine income eligibility, guardians must provide income documentation if the student does not receive SNAP or TANF benefits.

IS IT NECESSARY TO VERIFY/QUALIFY A 4-YEAR-OLD STUDENT FOR PRE-K WHO WAS ELIGIBLE AND ENROLLED IN PRE-K AS A 3-YEAR-OLD STUDENT?

Arlington ISD is still required to verify and document eligibility from the previous school year for previously enrolled 3-year-old students even though they would automatically qualify for pre-K based on their qualification and enrollment as 3-year old pre-K students.

WHEN CAN I REGISTER MY CHILD FOR PRE-K?

Registration for the current school year, 2023-2024, is open. Online registration begins April 1, 2024, to register for the 2024-2025 school year.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED FOR PRE-K REGISTRATION?  


  1. Student's birth certificate

  2. Photo ID of parent / guardian (driver's license, state or international ID, passport)

  3. Proof of address (current gas, water or electricity bill or the lease / mortgage agreement in the name of the parent / guardian)

  4. Each of the following documents that apply:


    • Proof of Income – Last 30 days for all adults living in the household (paystub, Medicaid, disability, worker comp)

    • SNAP/TANF benefits letter

    • Current tax return (if self-employed)

    • Proof of military service for active duty military parent(s)

    • Foster care documents

    • Star of Texas Award certificate or letter



  5. Immunization Records

  6. Social Security Card (if available)


*Any student who has a language other than English listed on his/her Home Language Survey will be contacted by a school district staff member to complete additional qualification steps.

WHAT SCHOOL WILL MY CHILD ATTEND FOR PRE-K 4? 

Arlington ISD 4-year-old students must be registered at their home school. Please visit our Search Campus by Address page to learn which campus your address is zoned for.

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN THE ARLINGTON ISD BOUNDARY FOR MY CHILD TO ATTEND PRE-K IN ARLINGTON ISD?

Arlington ISD welcomes students who reside outside our district boundaries. However, school enrollment may be limited to space availability. Enrollment priority is given to pre-K students who reside in Arlington ISD's boundaries. Transfers will be granted if space is available at the requested school during an Arlington ISD transfer window. To learn how to transfer into Arlington ISD, please visit aisd.net/transfer.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WOULD LIKE MY CHILD TO ATTEND A PRE-K 4 PROGRAM AT A SCHOOL OTHER THAN OUR "HOME CAMPUS"?

Four-year-old Arlington ISD students must be registered first at their home campus. Transfers will be granted if space is available at the requested school during an Arlington ISD transfer window. To learn more about transferring, please visit aisd.net/transfer.

WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL DAYS AND HOURS?

All Arlington ISD four-year-old pre-K students attend school from 8:10 a.m. – 3:35 p.m. Monday - Friday. This schedule is called "full-day pre-K."

DOES ARLINGTON ISD OFFER PRE-K BILINGUAL SERVICES?

Yes. Arlington ISD offers pre-K bilingual classes for 3-year-old students and 4-year-old students at many of our elementary schools. View a full list of schools offering pre-K bilingual services.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN A PRE-K 4 CLASS?

The maximum number of students in a full-day pre-K 4 class is 22. Each classroom has one certified teacher in early childhood education and one teaching assistant.

WHAT IS THE ARLINGTON ISD ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR PRE-K STUDENTS?       

Pre-K students fall under the Compulsory Attendance Law and are expected to attend school and follow the Arlington ISD school district calendar.

DO STUDENTS HAVE NAP/REST TIME IN PRE-K 4?  

Nap/rest time is embedded in the Arlington ISD pre-K 4 full-day schedule.

IS CHILD CARE AVAILABLE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL?

All of our elementary schools with pre-K will offer after-school childcare next school year. Some schools will provide childcare before school. Before and aftercare will be provided by either the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs or Girls, Inc. Please contact your school for the options at your school.

IS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED TO PRE-K STUDENTS?  

Transportation is provided to eligible pre-K 4 student riders, preferably with an older eligible sibling. For more eligibility information, please visit the Arlington ISD transportation website.

DO PRE-K STUDENTS RECEIVE ANY MEALS?

Pre-K students are offered school meals that comply with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) nutrition guidelines. For students to receive free or reduced-price meals, they will need to:



  1. Complete a Meal Benefits Application and be approved for benefits through the National School Lunch Program. Apply here.

  2. Be directly certified by the state for meal benefits (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid)  

  3. Attend a school operating the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

Arlington ISD sigue las Pautas de Prekínder de la Agencia de Educación de Texas. ¿CÓMO SE INCORPORA STEM EN PREKÍNDER?

¿QUÉ EDAD DEBE TENER MI HIJO/A PARA INSCRIBIRSE EN PREKÍNDER?

Para ser elegible para inscribirse en un programa gratuito de Prekínder 4, su niño/a debe tener al menos cuatro años de edad en o antes del 1 de septiembre del año escolar actual. Un niño/a que tiene cinco años el 1 de septiembre del año escolar actual no es elegible para la inscripción en una clase de prekínder pero puede inscribirse en kindergarten.

¿Arlington ISD ofrece prekínder bilingüe?

¿HAY ALGÚN CARGO DE MATRÍCULA PARA QUE MI HIJO DE CUATRO AÑOS ASISTA A PREKÍNDER DE DÍA COMPLETO? IS THERE A FEE FOR MY FOUR-YEAR-OLD TO ATTEND FULL-DAY PRE-K?

No hay ningún cargo de matrícula para que los estudiantes de cuatro años asistan a prekínder. La Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Arlington aprobó una iniciativa llamada PRE-K Universal, la cual provee la oportunidad a todos los estudiantes de 4 años de edad  a asistir gratis a prekínder 4, incluso si su hijo no cumple con los requerimientos  federales de calificación.

SI PREKÍNDER ES GRATIS PARA TODOS LOS NIÑOS DE CUATRO AÑOS, ¿POR QUÉ TODAVÍA NECESITO PROPORCIONAR LA DOCUMENTACIÓN DE ELEGIBILIDAD DE LAS PAUTAS FEDERALES?

El prekínder universal es una decisión aprobada localmente por Arlington ISD; sin embargo, las pautas estatales y federales aún requieren que todos los estudiantes sean evaluados para determinar su elegibilidad federal. ¿CUÁNDO PUEDO INSCRIBIR A MI HIJO PARA PREKÍNDER? WHEN CAN I REGISTER MY CHILD FOR PRE-K?

La inscripción para el año escolar actual, 2023-2024, continúa abierta. La inscripción en línea comienza el 1 de abril de 2024 para inscribirse en el año escolar del 2024-2025. 

¿CUÁLES SON LOS DOCUMENTOS REQUERIDOS PARA EL REGISTRO EN PREKÍNDER?


  1. Certificado de nacimiento del estudiante

  2. Identificación con fotografía del padre/tutor (licencia de conducir, identificación estatal o internacional, pasaporte)

  3. Comprobante de domicilio (factura actual de gas, agua o electricidad o el contrato de arrendamiento u hipoteca a nombre del padre/tutor)

  4. Cada uno de los siguientes documentos si aplican:



  • Prueba de ingresos: últimos 30 días para todos los adultos que viven en el hogar (talón de cheque, Medicaid, prueba de discapacidad, prueba de compensación al trabajador)

  • Prueba de Snap/TANF

  • Declaración de impuestos actual (si es trabajador por cuenta propia)

  • Prueba del servicio militar para padres militares en servicio activo

  • Documentos de cuidado de crianza (Foster Care)

  • Certificado o carta del Premio Estrella de Texas



  1. Registro de inmunización

  2. Tarjeta del Seguro Social (si está disponible)


*Cualquier estudiante que tenga un idioma distinto del inglés indicado en el documento: Encuesta de idioma de la casa (Home Language Survey) será contactado por un miembro del personal del distrito escolar para completar los pasos de calificación adicionales.

¿A QUÉ ESCUELA ASISTIRÁ MI HIJO/A EN PREKÍNDER 4?

Los estudiantes de cuatro años de AISD que califican para servicios gratuitos de prekínder 4 deben registrarse en la escuela de su comunidad. Haga clic aquí para saber para qué campus está zonificada su dirección.


Los traslados (transfers) solo se concederán si hay espacio disponible en la escuela solicitada durante el tiempo establecido para transferencias o traslados de AISD. Para obtener más información, visite el sitio web de AISD Transfer.

¿TENGO QUE VIVIR DENTRO DE LOS LÍMITES GEOGRÁFICOS DE ARLINGTON ISD PARA QUE MI HIJO/A ASISTA A PREKÍNDER EN AISD?

Arlington ISD da la bienvenida a los estudiantes que residen fuera de los límites de la escuela. Sin embargo, la inscripción escolar puede limitarse a la disponibilidad de espacio. La prioridad de inscripción se da a los estudiantes los estudiantes que residen en los límites del distrito escolar de Arlington. ¿QUÉ DEBO HACER SI QUISIERA QUE MI HIJO/A ASISTIERA A UN PROGRAMA DE PREKÍNDER 4 EN OTRA ESCUELA QUE NO SEA LA ESCUELA ASIGNADA "ESCUELA DE MI COMUNIDAD"?

Los estudiantes de AISD de cuatro años deben estar registrados primero en la escuela de su comunidad. ¿CUÁLES SON LOS DÍAS Y HORARIOS ESCOLARES?

Todos los estudiantes de prekínder de cuatro años de Arlington ISD asisten a la escuela de 8:10 a.m. a 3:35 p.m. de lunes a viernes. Este horario se llama " Prekínder de día completo".


All Arlington ISD four-year-old pre-K students attend school from 8:10 a.m. – 3:35 p.m. Monday - Friday. This schedule is called "Full-day Pre-K."

¿OFRECE ARLINGTON ISD SERVICIOS BILINGÜES EN PREKÍNDER?

Sí. Arlington ISD ofrece servicios bilingües en prekínder para estudiantes de 3 años de edad y estudiantes de 4 años de edad en muchas de nuestras escuelas primarias. Para obtener una lista completa de las escuelas y localizaciones de prekínder que ofrecen servicios bilingües, visite aquí.

¿CUÁL ES LA CANTIDAD MÁXIMA DE ESTUDIANTES EN UNA CLASE DE PREKÍNDER 4?

La cantidad máxima de estudiantes en una clase de Prekínder 4 de día completo es 22. Cada clase tiene un maestro certificado en educación preescolar  y un asistente de maestro.

¿CUÁL ES LA POLÍTICA DE ASISTENCIA DE ARLINGTON ISD PARA ESTUDIANTES DE PREKÍNDER?

Los estudiantes prekínder están bajo la Ley de asistencia obligatoria. Por lo tanto, se espera que asistan a la escuela y sigan el calendario del distrito escolar de Arlington ISD.

¿TIENEN LOS ESTUDIANTES SIESTA/TIEMPO DE DESCANSO EN PREKÍNDER?

El tiempo de siesta/descanso está incluido en el horario de Prekínder 4 del distrito escolar de Arlington ISD.

¿HAY CUIDO DISPONIBLE ANTES Y DESPUÉS DE LA ESCUELA?

Todas nuestras escuelas primarias con prekínder ofrecerán cuidado de niños después de la escuela el próximo año escolar. Algunas escuelas primarias ofrecerán cuidado de niños antes del comienzo del  horario de clases. El cuidado de niños antes y después del horario escolar será provisto por uno de los siguientes programas "YMCA", "Boys and Girls Clubs" y "Girls, Inc.". Por favor comuníquese con la escuela de su comunidad para las opciones disponibles.

¿SE PROPORCIONARÁ TRANSPORTACIÓN A ESTUDIANTES DE PREKÍNDER?

Solo a estudiantes de Prekínder 4 que califican, preferiblemente con un hermano(a) mayor pueden recibir servicios de transportación. Para más información sobre elegibilidad, visite la página electrónica de AISD Transportación.

¿LOS ESTUDIANTES DE PREKÍNDER RECIBEN ALGUNA COMIDA?

A los estudiantes de prekínder  se les ofrecen comidas escolares que cumplen con las pautas de nutrición del Departamento de agricultura de los Estados Unidos (USDA) y el Departamento de agricultura de Texas (TDA). Para que los estudiantes reciban comidas gratuitas o a precio reducido, deberán:




  1. Completar una Solicitud de beneficios de comidas y sea aprobado para los beneficios a través del Programa nacional de almuerzos escolares. Aplica aquí.




  2. Ser certificado directamente por el estado para los beneficios de comidas (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid)




  3. Asistir a una escuela que está operando la Disposición de elegibilidad  comunitaria (CEP).
