Arlington ISD new restaurant-style pizza is a big hit

Smart Mouth pizza now at four schools

Even the pizza in Arlington ISD is getting smarter.

That’s because the district is serving up something exciting in its cafeterias thanks to a new partnership with Smart Mouth Pizza

Known for serving restaurant-quality pizza crafted just for K-12 schools, Smart Mouth is helping Arlington ISD raise the bar on what it means to serve tasty, nutritious meals.

“I love that we’re able to provide our students with meals that are truly restaurant-quality,” said Arlington ISD nutrition education coach Bri Fritz. “One of the biggest challenges in school food service is overcoming the negative perception that sometimes surrounds school meals. By offering high-quality, appealing options, we’re changing that narrative and showing students that school food can be both nutritious and enjoyable.”

Arlington ISD new restaurant-style pizza is a big hitThe program has already made a successful debut at four Arlington ISD campuses – Sam Houston High School, Arlington High School, Venture High School and Bailey Junior High – and the reviews are in.

“I like the cheese pizza,” said Bailey eighth grader Jacob Anaya. “It feels nice to be able to choose what I want to eat.”

And when he found out the pizza was actually good for him?

“I think that’s really cool,” he said.

Arlington High freshman Ethan Nava was just as impressed.

“I like the addition of the new pizza,” he said. “It’s good that it’s nutritious because it actually tastes good.”

In other words, it was love at first slice!

The district is now preparing to expand the program further.

“We plan to continue to introduce the Smart Mouth pizza concept to all of our six main high schools and our 10 junior highs into the beginning of next school year,” said executive director of food and nutrition services David Lewis.

In Arlington ISD, it’s good to have a smart mouth!
