The Tarrant County College Summer Enrichment Program is opening doors for Arlington ISD students!

Students from Sam Houston High School spent the past month improving their math readiness skills and working toward industry-recognized electronics certifications.

“This is a really hands-on program,” said Selena Obara, sophomore at Sam Houston High School. “You get to meet a lot of people, you work with different people, but it’s really good. You get a head start, and you just learn so much, it’s fun.”

This summer, 15 students passed the TSI math assessment, opening the pathway to enrolling in college-level math courses and advanced electronics courses this fall. The program is designed to inspire students in the field of electronics and engineering while blending academics with hands-on technical training.

Nine students passed the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) exam, placing them among the youngest in Texas to do so. Arlington ISD is the only district in Texas with 15- and 16-year-old students passing the SACA exam.

“This certification will help me a lot in expanding my academic and career experience, and it’ll even help me land a job,” said Alex Skilsky, sophomore at Sam Houston High School.

The students who earned the certification are already being recruited by major companies, including Texas Instruments, with starting salaries at $75,000 directly after high school graduation.

“That really pushed me and motivated me to go into this career,” said Ibrahim Odunlami, sophomore at Sam Houston High School. “It helped widen my view on electronics and engineering, and this is going to help me in the future to build my career and get paid more.”
