A new series on Chip and Joanna Gaine’s Magnolia Network will feature some of Arlington ISD’s own. The students on the Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center’s BBQ team, the Smokin’ Ferrets, have made a name for themselves in Texas and are about to be introduced to the rest of the nation.

“This past year our BBQ club had an incredible opportunity to be featured on a reality show focused on high school BBQ,” said Chef Greg Almendarez, a culinary instructor at the CTC and the head coach for the school’s BBQ competition team. “My students dedicated themselves and worked tirelessly, and I couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and achievements.”

The reality show – “BBQ High” – profiles the sport of high school BBQ in Texas and follows some of the state’s culinary heavyweights as they strive to reach the state meet and compete for scholarships and pit glory.

“BBQ High” premieres this Sunday, Aug. 18, on Magnolia Network with the first two episodes at noon and 1 p.m. New episodes will air on the following Sundays. Streaming is also available the same day on Max and discovery+.  And check back here at the Arlington ISD Looped In blog each week for recaps of the episodes.
