Board Brief from school board meeting on Feb. 6

Arlington ISD’s Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 6, 2025, is in the books, and here are a few of the highlights.

Dunn Elementary student Lailah Burnham started the meeting by leading everyone in the pledges of allegiance. The fifth grader did a great job.

After the pledge, a small ensemble from Young Junior High’s Symphonic Band performed a Latin-inspired piece titled “Poco Loco.” The students were directed by Sarah Pollan and were fantastic.

Then the board honored an incredible student of the month: Martin High School’s Tessa Goodyear. This well-rounded, adventurous senior plays the harp for the Martin Honors Orchestra and is a Martin cheerleader. She also excels in the classroom. In fact, she’s currently ranked eighth in a class of 889 students and has taken 26 advanced and AP classes. She’s looking forward to majoring in pre-med once she gets to college. Congratulations, Tessa!

The board later approved the district to proceed with the final sale of bonds in the 2019 Bond program – the final $163,568,700. Proceeds from the sale will fund the last construction projects in the bond program, along with safety, security and technology improvements, fine arts equipment and uniforms, and buses and service vehicles.

The board also called for an election in May to fill places four and five on the Arlington ISD school board. The three-year terms of the current trustees from places four and five conclude that month. The deadline for candidates to file to run is Feb. 14.

Those are just a few of the highlights from tonight, but there was more on the agenda – there were several updates, purchases were approved and the board welcomed a new assistant superintendent for financial services, as well.
