Arlington ISD’s Board of Trustees meeting on March 13, 2025, is in the books, and here are a few of the highlights
Amos Elementary sixth grader Logan Johnson started the meeting by leading everyone in the pledges of allegiance. He did a fantastic job! Thank you, Logan.
After the pledges, there was a special performance of Carter Junior High’s “Carter Alma Mater” by students from Carter’s band, orchestra and choir, directed by Carter band director Chad Strother. The performance was beautiful and bittersweet, as this is Carter’s final year. We’re saying goodbye to the 67-year-old school, but we’re excited for what comes next. The school is moving to a brand-new state-of-the-art building and will be called Rodriguez Junior High.
Then the board honored the student of the month for March, Sam Houston High school senior Harmony Ontere. Harmony embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication. A promising football player whose career was cut short by a hip injury, he refused to let adversity define him. Instead, he channeled his passion for the game into coaching and became a guiding force for his teammates for the remainder of his high school career. He’s kind and determined and an inspiration to the entire Sam community. Congratulations, Harmony!
The board also presented the Community Partner Award of Appreciation to the United Performing Arts Guild for bringing the magic of “The Nutcracker” to life for elementary school children for the last four years. Over three days, they share six performances for four to five schools per show – and all for free. It’s the first time many of our students get to attend a theater performance. So, thank you to the Arts Guild.
Among several reports given to the board was one from the Financial Futures Committee, outlining key priorities and potential strategies for addressing the district’s budget challenges. The FFC, comprised of 18 volunteers, advises the board by providing findings and recommendations related to budgets and long-range financial planning.
Also related to financials, the board approved the district’s monthly financial report through January.
The trustees also approved the construction manager at risk – Lee Lewis Construction – for the major renovation projects at Wilemon and Cravens fields. These projects are part of the 2019 Bond program.
Finally, the board of trustees approved an interlocal agreement with Tarleton State University that will give automatic admission to Arlington ISD students who graduate in the top 50% of their class. They won’t even have to submit an ACT or SAT score to qualify.
Those are just a few of the highlights from tonight. If you would like more details on any of these, or any of the items not covered in the Board Brief, please click here to watch the entire meeting.
