Arlington ISD's Long-Range Facility Planning Committee analyzes district enrollment
Posted in on October 30, 2026

Arlington ISD’s Long-Range Facility Planning Committee met last night to review research and ideas for future facility usage.

The committee – made up of parents, employees, and community members – is studying how the district’s schools can best serve students in the years ahead and will develop a proposal for the Arlington ISD Board of Trustees to optimize facilities and resources.

“We’re focused on three key areas: student opportunities, how we use our facilities, and where enrollment is today and where it’s headed,” said committee member Adam Baker. “We’re also looking at student safety, access to programs, and how enrollment is balanced across our junior high schools.”

The committee was formed to help the district respond proactively to issues facing many districts across Texas and the nation, including enrollment declines and budget challenges.

In Arlington ISD, enrollment has declined by nearly 15,000 students over the last decade. By 2030, projections indicate the district will have 13,633 open seats, or 37.7% of the district’s capacity.

Declining enrollment also equates to lower funding, as public school districts receive funding based on student attendance. Plus, all districts, including Arlington ISD, are dealing with significantly higher operating expenses and inflation. With fewer students and growing budget constraints, the district will need to adjust.

“Right now, we’re reviewing data, identifying possible options, and weighing different scenarios,” Baker said. “As we continue this work in upcoming meetings, we’ll dig deeper and start shaping our recommendations.”

The Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee will take its recommendations to the Board of Trustees in January 2027.
