Curt Culbertson Field

Martin High School officially renamed its Warrior Baseball Field to Culbertson Field last night, honoring longtime coach Curt Culbertson. Culbertson’s wife, Carol, and family joined Arlington ISD trustee Leanne Haynes and Martin principal Marlene Roddy in a pre-game ceremony on the field as they remembered and celebrated the legacy of Coach Culbertson.Martin baseball field renamed in honor of former Coach Culbertson

Culbertson’s Arlington ISD roots ran deep. He starred on the diamond at Arlington High School before continuing his career at the University of Texas at Arlington. His talent led to being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1982.

But it was his impact as a coach that defined his legacy. Over a remarkable 38-year career – including 11 years as the head coach at Bowie High School and 19 leading Martin’s program from 2005 to 2023 – Culbertson built one of the area’s most successful programs. His accomplishments include 678 wins, 12 district championships, seven Elite Eight appearances and three state tournament berths. He was also named District Coach of the Year 12 times and Dallas High Yield Coach of the Year in 2013 by Capital One Bank. He was inducted into the Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor in 2024. Culbertson was known for his hard work, immaculate field, well-disciplined teams, and high expectations. Martin baseball field renamed in honor of former Coach Culbertson

While the accolades are impressive, those who know Culbertson say his greatest achievement was the way he shaped young lives. Through his leadership, integrity and mentorship, he made a lasting impact that reached far beyond baseball.

Now, with the field bearing his name, generations of Warriors will be reminded of the standard he set on the field and in life.

Thank you, Coach Cultbertson.
