First-ever MLK Celebration Talent Showcase
Posted in , on November 21, 2022

The first-ever Talent Showcase for the Arlington MLK Advancing the Dream Four-Day Celebration is coming Jan. 14, and now is the time to sign up for a chance to be part of it.

The showcase is open to any Arlington ISD student or group of students, kindergarten through 12th grade.

“It’s going to be a great forum for students to use their gifts and talents to celebrate and promote the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King,” said Eric Phillips, Arlington ISD family engagement specialist. “It’s also a great opportunity for the entire Arlington community to remember the life and legacy of Dr. King and support and enjoy the amazing talents of our students.”

Showcase your talent

Arlington ISD students or student groups need to submit an entry to the MLK Advancing the Dream Talent Showcase Committee for a chance to be selected to perform at the showcase. Students must first fill out this online form by Thursday, Dec. 1, and then send a video showing their performance to MLKTalentShowcase@aisd.net by Thursday, Dec. 8. The MLK Advancing the Dream Talent Showcase Committee will select the final acts that will perform on Jan. 14.

MLK Celebration Weekend

The Talent Showcase is new, but the Arlington Martin Luther King Advancing the Dream Four-Day Celebration is not. It’s an annual celebration in January with events designed to remember and continue Dr. King’s dream and work. With art and essay contests, step performances, concerts, a day of service and more, there is something for every student and community member. Visit the City of Arlington’s website for more details.

The MLK Advancing the Dream Celebration was organized by the MLK Celebration Committee. Established as a non-profit in 1990, the MLK Celebration Committee has been an active contributor to the community for over 30 years. The MLK Celebration Committee gives scholarships to graduating students and donates time and resources to the community while continuing to push forward the message and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The committee is supported by the following organizations:

  • Arlington ISD
  • Arlington Ministerial Association
  • Tarrant County College Southeast Campus
  • The City of Arlington
  • The University of Texas at Arlington
