RE/MAX hot air balloon crew gives demonstration
What do you get when you mix a giant hot air balloon and a school full of curious little learners?
“An experience students will never forget,” said Short Elementary principal Betsy Berkebile.
Thanks to a special partnership with the KC Realty Group at RE/MAX Trinity, the school welcomed the RE/MAX hot air balloon crew for a once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon demonstration.
“This is so awesome,” said associate broker Kelly Christenson. “I really wanted to do this for this school to foster a love of learning.”
That’s exactly what the crew aimed to do by sharing the math, science, physics and thermodynamics as the 42,000-cubic-foot balloon inflated on the school’s blacktop. After many “oohs” and “ahs,” the students had the chance to ask questions and get a close-up view of the balloon’s basket and burners.
“Seeing the curiosity and excitement on all the kids faces, that’s what makes this so exciting,” Christenson said.
But the learning didn’t end there. Each student also received a goody bag filled with coloring packets and an information sheet to take home what they learned to their families.
“How many times do students have the opportunity to see how a real hot air balloon inflates?” Berkebile said. “It’s amazing the types of experiences we’re able to create for our kids through our community partnerships.”
