Seagers provide $500 for each student

The young teenager was looking for shoes at Academy when someone walked up to him.

“Can I help you with anything?” the guy said to the teen.

But it wasn’t an Academy employee. It was two-time World Series MVP and Texas Ranger Corey Seager.

For the third year in a row, the Seagers funded a back-to-school shopping spree for these students, giving each $400 to buy whatever they wanted, plus $100 to take home with them.

The Seagers, along with Rangers players Josh Jung and Cal Quantrill, roamed the store helping the students find everything they needed.

“It’s just fun,” Corey Seager said. “Hearing the stories, seeing their faces – you know, getting excited about going back to school.”

A Martin High School junior was definitely excited as she weaved her basket through the clothing displays. The stuff in her basket is going to help her get ready for what she’s most excited about this school year.

“I just want to get things for school, things for practice as well because I’m a Sundancer at Martin … I’m most excited to perform at our football games.”

“We’re trying to find some shirts, shoes, pants, and stuff like that.”

They’re excited for the school year because they have a huge goal within reach, and getting the gear they need for school will help them achieve it: graduating early.

“It’s a real gift,” said Vicki Warren, Arlington ISD Student Outreach Services coordinator, about the shopping spree. “It’s very meaningful because they can buy items they’ll utilize at school that maybe they weren’t able to afford previously. We’re super thankful that the Rangers, and Corey Seager in particular, sponsored this each year for students.”
