Entrepreneurship I

This course will introduce students to the entrepreneurial mindset and the basic skills necessary to become an entrepreneur. The primary focus is identifying business opportunities using Design Thinking, creating a business plan using Lean Start-Up, and developing a plan to organize and promote the business. In addition, students may get opportunities throughout the year to enhance their entrepreneurial skillset, including; creating a pop up business, competing in pitch competitions, and participating in other networking events.

Principles of Hospitality and Tourism

This course introduces students to an industry that encompasses lodging, travel and tourism, recreation, amusements, attractions, and food/beverage operations. Students learn knowledge and skills focusing on communication, time management, and customer service that meet industry standards. Students will explore the history of the hospitality and tourism industry and examine the characteristics needed for success in that industry.

Travel and Tourism Management

#Certification opportunity: Certification exams offered based on industry partners’ needs. Students will study management principles and procedures of the travel and tourism industry. They will study destination geography, special considerations for international travel, and modes of travel such as airline, cruising, and rail. They will learn to guide others as they make informed travel decisions regarding budgets, safety, and types of accommodations

Hospitality Services

Students will integrate hands-on experience and project-based instruction to prepare for a career and/or postsecondary training in hospitality and hotel services. They will become familiar with all aspects of hotel operations, including developing communication and marketing skills; analyzing safety and security issues and solutions for groups in multiple environments; understanding check- in and check-out procedures, housekeeping processes, food service systems, and engineering systems.

Practicum Hospitality Services

#Certification opportunity: Certification exams offered based on industry partners’ needs.
This course is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills in an unpaid arrangement appropriate to the nature and level of experience. Students will demonstrate proper job search procedures, interview techniques, professional dress and appearance, interpersonal skills, and technical skills in their practicum placement locations. Students who wish to take this course must have their own transportation in order to be able to travel to their practicum site(s). This is a capstone course for students that are completing a coherent sequence of courses within their specific career pathway

Introduction to Culinary Arts

Students will study the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the management of a variety of food service operations from fast food to high-end restaurants. Students will study the fundamentals of safely cooking and baking items commonly prepared in food service operations such as breakfast cookery, salads and dressings, soups and sandwiches, stocks and sauces, appetizers, seafood, poultry, meat, fruits, vegetables, yeast and quick breads, and desserts. They will learn to use technology to develop purchasing specifications, convert standardized recipes, and calculate and manage food costs. Uniform purchase is required.

This introductory course will give students knowledge of private enterprise systems, the impact of global business, marketing of goods and services, advertising, and product pricing. Practicum in Entrepreneurship

The Practicum enables students to gain first-hand entrepreneurial experience within a structured, supportive context. In addition to applying the knowledge acquired during previous courses, students will also learn – and put into practice – valuable new tools and techniques that can help identify, assess, and pursue attractive business opportunities. During multiple team-based projects students will gain hands-on experience in a broad range of important entrepreneurial activities. Students who wish to take this course must have their own transportation to travel to their practicum site(s). This course may serve as a capstone in multiple pathways.
