Entrepreneurship I
This course will introduce students to the entrepreneurial mindset and the basic skills necessary to become an entrepreneur. The primary focus is identifying business opportunities using Design Thinking, creating a business plan using Lean Start-Up, and developing a plan to organize and promote the business. In addition, students may get opportunities throughout the year to enhance their entrepreneurial skillset, including; creating a pop up business, competing in pitch competitions, and participating in other networking events.

Principles of Human Services
Students will investigate careers in the human services career cluster, including counseling and mental health, early childhood development, family and community, and personal care services. A variety of activities will include explaining the impact of nutrition and preparing nutritious snacks or meals, investigating causes and prevention of child abuse,
demonstrating simple clothing repair and alteration techniques, and investigating specific state requirements for licensure in personal care services such as cosmetology or child care.

Interpersonal Studies
This course examines how the relationships between individuals and among family members affect the quality of life. Students will acquire knowledge and skills to enhance personal development, foster quality relationships, promote wellness of family members, manage multiple adult roles, and pursue careers related to counseling and mental health services.

Counseling and Mental Health
In Counseling and Mental Health, students model the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a counseling and mental health career through simulated environments. Students are expected to apply knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations on their actions and responsibilities, and the implications of their actions. Students understand how professional integrity in counseling and mental health care is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities.

Human Growth & Development
Human Growth and Development is an examination of human development across the lifespan with emphasis on research, theoretical perspectives, and common physical, cognitive, emotional, and social developmental milestones. The course covers material that is generally taught in a postsecondary, one-semester introductory course in developmental psychology or human development.

Child Development
This course will focus on knowledge and skills related to child growth and development from prenatal through school-age children. Students will investigate the role that prenatal care plays in the health of children; the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of the child at each stage of development; the protection and safety of children; the roles and responsibilities of parenting; proper nutrition at each stage of development; and the role of schools in child development.

Introduction to Cosmetology
Introduction to Cosmetology students explore careers in the cosmetology industry. To prepare for success, students must have academic and technical knowledge and skills relative to the industry.

Cosmetology I
Cosmetology is a two-year program intended for students who have a passion for the beauty industry and who strive to obtain their Texas Cosmetology Commission State Operator License. The student is expected to pass both the state written and practical exams before graduation. Both parts of the written exam and the practical application exam must be passed in order to obtain licensure. Classroom instruction includes sterilization and sanitation processes, chemical principles involving the use of hair and beauty products, shampooing, hair cutting and styling, coloring, permanent waving, manicuring and pedicuring. Regular attendance in class is a priority and all passing assignments, quizzes and tests are mandatory per TDLR. Students will attend 4 class periods on their designated scheduled day.

Cosmetology II

Cosmetology is a two-year program intended for students who have a passion for the beauty industry and who strive to obtain their Texas Cosmetology Commission State Operator License. The student is expected to pass both the state written and practical exams before graduation. Both parts of the written exam and the practical application exam must be passed in order to obtain licensure. Classroom instruction includes sterilization and sanitation processes, chemical principles involving the use of hair and beauty products, shampooing, hair cutting and styling, coloring, permanent waving, manicuring and pedicuring. Students must complete 24 course credits in the Cosmetology program before being eligible to take the written exam. Students must first pass the written exam and then must obtain an additional 3 course credits for a total of 27 credits in order to take the practical exam. Regular attendance in class is a priority and all passing assignments, quizzes and tests are mandatory per TDLR. Students will attend 4 class periods on their designated scheduled day.

Practicum in Human Services
This capstone course is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills in an unpaid arrangement appropriate to the nature and level of experience. Students will demonstrate proper job search procedures, interview techniques, professional dress and appearance, interpersonal skills, and technical skills in their practicum placement locations. Students who wish to take this course must have their own transportation in order to be able to travel to their practicum site(s). This is a capstone course for students that are completing a coherent sequence of courses within their specific career pathway.
